Northeast all Progressive Youth Forum Condemns False Media Reports on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Leadership
The Northeast Progressive Youth Forum wishes to express deep concern and total condemnation over the recent false and misleading publications by Leadership Newspaper and Daily Trust alleging the replacement of the entire management of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
This unprofessional act by this widely circulated media houses is a gross misrepresentation of facts and a calculated attempt to mislead the public. We find it disturbing that such weighty claims could be published without any credible sources or official confirmation from the Presidency.
For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no official communication from either the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation or the Presidential Spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, regarding any change in the NTA leadership. Such a major decision, if it existed, would ordinarily be announced through the President’s official channels.
We reaffirm that the Director-General of NTA, Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, remains a loyal and trusted appointee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Since assuming office, the DG has demonstrated exceptional Guardian, navigating NTA into a modern, globally competitive broadcasting institution. Under his stewardship:
Staff welfare has significantly improved.
The NTA headquarters building was completed to a world-class standard.
Digital transformation initiatives have been advanced to meet global best practices.
Currently, the DG is on an official tour of South-South states alongside the Honourable Minister of Information, inspecting Federal Government projects under President Tinubu’s administration to update the public on progress made.
It is, therefore, surprising and suspicious that such baseless and damaging reports are being circulated at a time when the DG is delivering results and maintaining a transparent, open-door policy that promotes accountability.
We call on Guardian Newspaper and Daily Trust to immediately issue a public apology for this false publication. Furthermore, we urge the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to impose appropriate sanctions on any media organization found guilty of spreading unverified information that undermines public trust.
After careful assessment of his performance, the Northeast all Progressive Youth Forum hereby passes a Vote of Confidence in the DG, NTA, Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, and his executive directors. We also urge President Tinubu to disregard such mischievous distractions and remain focused on his Renewed Hope agenda.
Signed:
Comrade Zakari Hashim
