Commissioner Clarifies Role in Financial Assistance to Umar Lauya, Urges PDP Youths to Unite and Shed Their Swords

In a bid to quell rising tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth circles, Hon. Babayo Gabarin, Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development in Bauchi State, has clarified his role in the recent financial assistance granted to Umar Lauya, an aspirant for the National Chairmanship of the Nigeria Youth Council.

Following a closed-door meeting with PDP youth stakeholders, it was revealed that the financial support extended to Mr. Lauya was not initiated by the Commissioner himself, but rather came through directives from higher authorities. According to sources present at the meeting, the request was originally made by Former Governor M.A. Abubakar, who sought the assistance on behalf of Mr. Lauya from His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed.

The Commissioner emphasized that his involvement was strictly procedural, acting on instructions from the Governor’s office. He acknowledged the concerns raised by PDP loyalists regarding Mr. Lauya’s past criticisms of the PDP-led administration and Governor Bala Mohammed, describing Lauya as a “mischievous personality” known for his antagonistic stance.

Despite this, Hon. Gabarin appealed to PDP youths and supporters to “shed their swords” and refrain from further attacks or public condemnation. He urged them to consider the broader context and facts surrounding the assistance, stressing that the gesture was not an endorsement of Mr. Lauya’s political ambitions.

However, The Youth group has made it clear that Umar Lauya cannot secure the position of National Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Council without the endorsement of the State Council,” a youth leader stated after the meeting. “This clarification should put to rest any assumptions of political favoritism.”

The call for unity comes at a time when the PDP in Bauchi State is working to consolidate its ranks and resolve internal disputes. The group leaders recently announced that party factions had reconciled, signaling a renewed commitment to cohesion and strategic progress.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, stakeholders are encouraged to prioritize party unity and focus on strengthening youth representation within national structures.
