SDP Denies Authorizing Letters Signed by Dr. Agunloye, Warns Against Reliance

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has issued a disclaimer notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the public, regarding a series of unauthorized documents and letters purportedly emanating from the party.
According to the party, these documents and letters, signed by the National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, and National Publicity Secretary, Rufus, among others, were not authorized by the party and are therefore null and void.
The SDP cited specific provisions of its constitution, including Section 13.1, which states that the National Chairman is the Chief Executive Officer and Leader of the party. Section 14.3 was also referenced, highlighting that no meeting of any organ of the party can validly hold in the absence of the Chairman.
The party emphasized that only the National Chairman can preside over meetings of the National Working Committee (NWC) and that non-compliance with rules for conducting meetings renders decisions taken null and void.
In light of these constitutional provisions, the SDP declared that all letters and documents signed without the National Chairman's signature or express delegation are illegal, unconstitutional, and of no effect.
The party specifically disclaimed all letters to INEC, security agencies, private individuals, and press releases to media houses signed by Dr. Olu Agunloye and others without the National Chairman's authorization.
As Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, Deputy National Legal Adviser, stated, "The SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY (SDP) hereby unequivocally disclaims all documents, letters and other communications signed by DR. OLU AGUNLOYE, RUFUS, and any other person whatsoever purported to have been written for or on behalf of the party."
The SDP urged Nigerians to disregard these unauthorized documents and warned that anyone acting on them does so at their own risk, potentially exposing themselves to litigations, costs, or damages. The party requested a positive response to the disclaimer notice, emphasizing that a timely response can prevent future issues.
