SDP's Unity Affirmed: INEC Recognizes Gabam as Authentic Chairman
From: Johnson Ogu
Abuja, The Independent National Electoral Commission has put an end to purported news making on the suspension of the National Chairman of Social Democratic Party. This follows documents rejecting all memoirs of the National Secretary and other memoirs of the National Chairman Dr. Agu Agunloye by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and recognizing Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam as the authentic National Chairman.
In a statement released by Alhaji Lawal Ibrahim, SA Media to the National Chairman, and shared on the official handle of the National Chairman, the statement reads, "The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), constitutionally saddled with the responsibility of regulating all political parties in Nigeria, only recognizes my person, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, as the National Chairman of our great party, the SDP."
This development has brought clarity to the leadership tussle within the party, with many members and supporters breathing a sigh of relief. According to the statement, this recognition by INEC is a testament to the unity and solidarity of the party under the leadership of Alhaji Gabam.
The statement further reads, "This is to bring to the attention of the general public and our esteemed party supporters across the length and breadth of Nigeria that there is no division whatsoever, and we are united as an entity." This assertion has been music to the ears of party faithful who have been worried about the reported infighting.
With this official recognition, the party's leadership structure is now clear, and Alhaji Gabam's position as the National Chairman is solidified. This will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the party's fortunes in the coming months and years.
The statement also noted that the official recognition by INEC finally puts to rest all speculations by Dr. Agu Agunloye and sets the record straight that only a National Chairman of a political party may preside over NWC or NEC meetings; otherwise, all decisions purported to have been taken to either remove any state Chairmen are null and void.
This clarification is expected to bring stability to the party, allowing it to focus on more pressing issues, such as preparing for upcoming elections and consolidating its support base across the country. With Alhaji Gabam at the helm, the SDP is poised to make a strong comeback in Nigerian politics.
