Arewa Youths Back Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan
From: Joshua Titus
The Arewa Youths Advocate for Peace and Unity Initiative has thrown its weight behind Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, condemning the continuous harassment and intimidation she has been facing. In a statement signed by the National President, Sani Danaudi Mohammed, the group described the events unfolding between the Senator and the Senate President as unfortunate.
The group had earlier nominated Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for an award as "Most Courageous Senator of the Year", recognizing her commitment to defending Nigerian democracy and her constituents' interests. This recognition appreciates her consistent and courageous stance in the Senate, advocating for her people's rights and welfare despite facing challenges.
According to Sani Danaudi Mohammed, the attempt to seize Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's passport while on her way to the UK further exacerbates the issue. He noted that the whole scenario has deprived her constituents of the dividends of democracy, yet despite her suspension, she has done more for her people than those in the Senate who are against her.
The Arewa Youths Advocate for Peace and Unity Initiative believes that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's suspension is a ploy to undermine her efforts and silence her voice in the Senate. The group, therefore, calls on the Senate President to respect the Senator's rights and allow her to continue serving her constituents without further harassment.
The group's statement was made available to newsmen in Yola during their midterm meeting held at Muna Hotels and Suits. The meeting, which discussed various issues affecting the nation, also deliberated on the Senator's situation and resolved to stand in solidarity with her.
The Arewa Youths Advocate for Peace and Unity Initiative commends Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for her courageous stance in the Senate, despite facing numerous challenges. Her consistent advocacy for her people's rights and welfare has earned her respect and admiration, not just from her constituents but from Nigerians across the country.
The group expresses concern over the Senate President's actions, which seem to be aimed at undermining Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's efforts. They urge the Senate leadership to prioritize the welfare of Senators and ensure that all members are treated fairly and with respect.
