Groups Condemn Agunloye's Attempt to Remove Gabam, Cite Lack of Morality

The Nigerian Youths League of Democrats for Good Governance (NLDGG) has condemned the attempt by the National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr. Ogu Agunloye, to lead a fake suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam. In a press conference held in Lagos today, the group described the move as laughable and unconstitutional.
The National Coordinator of NLDGG, Kayode Ajayi, stated that Agunloye's tactics and malicious allegations against Gabam are a clear indication of his lack of morality and credibility. Ajayi pointed out that Agunloye's own integrity is questionable, given his involvement in the $6 billion Mambilla Power Project contract breach allegations. "It's ironic that Agunloye, who is facing serious allegations of corruption and abuse of office, would seek to accuse Gabam of wrongdoing," Ajayi said.
The group noted that former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as former Minister of Power, Works, and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, are currently testifying in Paris, France, over Nigeria's $6 billion Mambilla Power Project contract breach allegations. Ajayi questioned how Agunloye, with his own controversies, could purport to accuse Gabam of any wrongdoing. "Agunloye's actions are a desperate attempt to deflect attention from his own problems and undermine Gabam's leadership," Ajayi added.
The NLDGG strongly condemned Agunloye's actions, describing them as a brazen attempt to undermine the democratic process within the SDP. The group called on security agencies and all stakeholders to take notice of Agunloye's antics and defend democracy in Nigeria. "We will not stand idly by while individuals like Agunloye seek to undermine the democratic process and destabilize our party," Ajayi said.
The group also expressed concern that Agunloye's actions are part of a larger plot to destabilize the SDP and undermine its leadership. They urged the party's leadership to take swift action to address the situation and prevent further damage. "The SDP leadership must take immediate action to restore order within the party and prevent Agunloye's actions from causing further harm," Ajayi emphasized.
The NLDGG reiterated its commitment to promoting good governance and democracy in Nigeria and warned that it would not stand idly by while individuals like Agunloye seek to undermine the democratic process. The group called on all Nigerians to join forces in defending democracy and promoting the rule of law. "We urge all Nigerians to stand up for democracy and reject any attempts to undermine it," Ajayi said.
In light of these developments, the NLDGG demands that Agunloye step down as National Secretary of the SDP and face the allegations against him. The group also calls on the party's leadership to investigate the circumstances surrounding Agunloye's attempt to suspend Gabam and take necessary actions to restore order within the party. "Agunloye must be held accountable for his actions, and the SDP leadership must take swift action to address this crisis," Ajayi concluded.
The NLDGG remains committed to promoting democracy, good governance, and the rule of law in Nigeria and will continue to speak out against any actions that seek to undermine these values. The Law remains committed to holding those in power accountable and promoting a better future for all Nigerians.
