Gabam Remains National Chair, SDP State Chairmen Forum Sets the Record Straight
From: John Johnson
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) State Chairmen Forum has denied claims of the suspension of the party's National Chairman. In a statement signed by Hon. Danlami Mohammed Musa, Secretary of the SDP State Chairmen Forum, the forum described the claims as baseless and without merit.
According to the forum, the Acting Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the party, who claimed to have suspended the National Chairman, lacks the authority to take such a decision. The forum noted that the Acting Chairman is merely an interim placeholder, and most of the individuals he claims to represent have had their tenures as State Chairmen expire and were duly replaced during the 2022 Party Congress.
The SDP State Chairmen Forum stated that the purported suspension is null and void, with no consequence whatsoever. The forum emphasized that the SDP Constitution is clear on the procedures for disciplining any member of the party, including the National Chairman.
The procedures, according to the forum, require a thorough investigation by a duly constituted panel, followed by a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. Since none of these procedures were followed in this instance, the purported suspension is considered a nullity.
The authentic State Chairmen of the SDP reaffirmed their unwavering support for the National Chairman and the leadership of the party. They urged all members of the party and the general public to disregard the false claims made by the Acting Chairman of Lagos State and his cohorts.
The SDP State Chairmen Forum emphasized that the party's leadership remains intact, and the National Chairman will continue to lead the party. The forum expressed confidence in the party's leadership and its ability to navigate any challenges that may arise.
The forum's statement is a clear indication that the party will not be swayed by attempts to undermine its leadership. The forum's unwavering support for the National Chairman is a testament to the party's unity and determination to move forward.
