RENOWNED PHARMACY LEADER CELEBRATES NIGERIA'S 64TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

Former Managing Director, NNPC Medical Services Ltd., Addresses Nation's Pharmacists on 64th Independence Day Celebrations

Dr. Mohammed Musa Zango, FPSN, FNAPharm, a distinguished figure in the pharmacy profession and former Managing Director of NNPC Medical Services Limited, delivered a powerful address on October 1, 2024, during Nigeria's 64th Independence Day celebrations.

Dr. Zango began by reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960, highlighting the rich diversity and sacrifices made for freedom. He expressed gratitude to those who fought for liberation and recognized contributions of Nigerians at home and abroad in building a prosperous future.

In his remarks, Dr. Zango underscored pharmacists' critical role in safeguarding national health and well-being. "As custodians of health, we profoundly impact citizens' longevity and prosperity," he stated. He acknowledged pharmacy profession growth and significant healthcare delivery contributions, particularly in formulating life-saving drugs and managing diseases.

The former Managing Director called on pharmacists to take pride in their contributions, advocate for better healthcare policies, and emphasize improved access to quality healthcare for all Nigerians. He praised the National Health Insurance Authority reform but stressed inclusivity and sustainability.

Dr. Zango encouraged pharmacists to embrace innovation, upgrade skills, and collaborate with healthcare professionals and policymakers. As the nation celebrates independence, he urged pharmacists to recommit to service, integrity, and leadership, challenging them to become health promotion and disease prevention ambassadors.

Dr. Zango concluded by reminding the public of shared responsibility in achieving a healthier nation, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and hoping for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

Dr. Mohammed Musa Zango is a seasoned administrator with over 35 years of quality healthcare experience. Previously, he served as General Manager for New Business at NNPC Medical Services Limited and led non-oil sector diversification initiatives, including healthcare services. Appointed Managing Director in March 2020, Dr. Zango established advanced Nigerian healthcare facilities.

Since retiring in September 2023, Dr. Zango remains a respected pharmacy leader, advocating for healthcare policy and practice improvements. His legacy inspires new generations of pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
