From: Abdulkadir Idris
A Gombe politician has called for the immediate confirmation of Dr. Umar Hashidu as the Managing Director of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC).
The Candidate of House of representative in Gombe State Hon. Umar Gidado Hashidu has called on the Nigerian Senate to immediately confirm the appointment of Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu as the MD/CEO of Northeast Development Commission.
The NEDC was established in 2017 to oversee the reconstruction and development of the Northeast region, which has been ravaged by insurgency and other forms of insecurity.
Dr. Hashidu, a seasoned administrator and public servant who served his country on different capacities currently is the MD of Yola electricity distribution comoany plc (YEDC) has demonstrated his competence and commitment to the task of rebuilding the Northeast region.
He has initiated several projects and programs aimed at addressing the socio-economic challenges facing the region, including poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure deficit through stable power supply in the region.
However, despite his impressive performance, Dr. Hashidu's confirmation as the substantive Managing Director of NEDC has been delayed due to bureaucratic bottlenecks and political intrigues.
This delay is not only unfair to Dr. Hashidu but also detrimental to the development agenda of the Northeast region. It is therefore commendable that a Gombe politician Hon. Gidado has spoken out in support of Dr. Hashidu's confirmation. This call should be heeded by all stakeholders involved in the process of confirming him as MD NEDC.
The Northeast region is in dire need of visionary leadership and effective management to overcome its challenges and unleash its potentials. Dr. Hashidu possesses these qualities and more, as evidenced by his track record in public service.
Therefore, it is imperative that his confirmation be expedited without further delay so that he can continue with his good work at NEDC. This will not only boost morale among stakeholders but also send a strong signal that meritocracy and competence are valued over politics and personal interests.
In conclusion, we urge all concerned authorities to act swiftly on this matter for the sake of peace, progress, and prosperity in the Northeast region. The time for politicking is over; it is time to put the people first and prioritize development. Dr. Hashidu's confirmation as MD NEDC is a step in the right direction.
It is important for all stakeholders in Gombe to act in the best interest of the Northeast Development Commission and its mission to develop the region. Any move to sabotage the confirmation of Dr. Umar Hashidu as MD could have negative consequences for the commission and its ability to carry out its mandate effectively.
It is therefore advisable for all parties involved to work together towards achieving a common goal of progress and development for the Northeast region and the country at large. He Concluded.
