Arewa Youths Condemn Attack on Malami's Convoy, Call for Investigation

From : Faith Johnson

The Arewa Youths Advocate for Peace and Unity Initiative has strongly condemned the recent attack on the convoy of Dr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation. The incident occurred in Birnin Kebbi while Malami was returning from a condolence visit. In a statement signed by the National President of the group, Rt. Hon. Sani Danaudi Mohammed, the attack was described as barbaric, satanic, and regrettable, necessitating urgent investigation by security agencies.

According to Rt. Hon. Mohammed, the attack appears to be strategically targeted at Malami due to his growing popularity in Kebbi since joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This popularity has put the ruling party on edge, considering Malami's wide acceptability by all and sundry. The group believes that this attack is a clear attempt to intimidate and silence Malami, who has become a formidable force in the region.

The Arewa Youths Advocate for Peace and Unity Initiative has called on President Asiwaju Ahmad Tinubu GCFR to draw the attention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi to desist from harassment and intimidation of the opposition. The group emphasized that such actions will not change the perception of their supporters but rather make the opposition more acceptable. They urged the President to ensure that the security agencies investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The timing of this attack is particularly concerning, coming on the heels of a similar incident in Kaduna where the former Governor of the State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, alleged an attack on his followers in the presence of security agencies. These incidents highlight a disturbing trend of violence and intimidation against opposition figures, which undermines the democratic process and creates an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

The group believes that this is not the time to heat up the polity but rather to focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to the citizens. They emphasized the need for a level playing field for all political parties, as entrenched in the constitution. The APC, as the ruling party, has a responsibility to ensure that the opposition is given the space to operate freely and without fear of persecution.

Dr. Abubakar Malami SAN is a respected figure who has worked tirelessly in service to the country throughout his career. He does not deserve to be subjected to such intimidation and harassment, particularly in his home state. The Arewa Youths Advocate for Peace and Unity Initiative has called on all well-meaning Nigerians to condemn this attack and demand justice for Malami.

The group also urged the security agencies to take immediate action to investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. They emphasized that the rule of law must be upheld, and those responsible for this attack must be held accountable for their actions. The people of Kebbi and indeed all Nigerians deserve to live in peace and security, without fear of violence and intimidation.

In conclusion, the Arewa Youths Advocate for Peace and Unity Initiative has reiterated its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and democracy in Nigeria. They have called on all stakeholders to work together to create an atmosphere of peace and stability, where all citizens can live freely and without fear of persecution. The group believes that only through collective effort can Nigeria achieve its full potential and provide a better future for all its citizens.
