Kebbi Fast Sleeping into ADC, One Week After Malami's Defection

From: Mustapha Abubakar

In a dramatic turn of events, Kebbi State politics has taken a new dimension following the defection of former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Less than a week after Malami's formal announcement, hundreds of groups across Kebbi State have shown solidarity to the former Minister, with some serving in the current government of Kebbi State joining the bandwagon.

The wave of defections gained momentum with the resignation of Hon. Nasiru Muhammad Dan Umma (Katukan Kabi) as Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris, effective July 7, 2025. Hon. Dan Umma's decision to decamp from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ADC has sent shockwaves across the state.

Another prominent son of Kebbi State, Barr. Aminu Muhammad Bunza, a two-term member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, has also dumped APC for ADC. Barr. Bunza's defection, along with former councilors and supporters, further solidifies the growing momentum behind Malami's new platform.

The rapid decampment of key stakeholders and supporters from APC to ADC has sparked widespread interest in the state. Many are closely watching the developments, wondering what this means for the future of politics in Kebbi State.

As the defection wave continues, it appears that Kebbi State is fast sleeping into ADC, with Malami leading the charge. The former Minister's efforts in changing the narratives during his tenure at the national level seem to be paying off, with posterity currently judging him favorably.

The implications of these defections are far-reaching, and it remains to be seen how the APC will respond to the loss of key figures in the state. One thing is certain, however: the political landscape in Kebbi State will never be the same again.

As the dust settles, all eyes are on the ADC and its ability to capitalize on the momentum generated by Malami's defection. Will the party be able to consolidate the gains and emerge as a formidable force in Kebbi State politics? Only time will tell.
