Breaking News: Former AGF Abubakar Malami Resigns from APC, Joins ADC

From: Usman Adamu

In a shocking move, Abubakar Malami, SAN, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This development comes after what Malami described as "wide consultations and deep personal reflection".

Malami cited the country's worsening insecurity, economic collapse, and governance failures as reasons for his departure from APC. He expressed concern over the rising cases of banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism in the North, stating that "Nigeria is bleeding". The former AGF also lamented the state of the economy, noting that prices of basic food items have tripled, and jobs are disappearing, leaving young people hopeless.

Malami urged Nigerians to join the movement to "reclaim our nation". He emphasized that the ADC is a platform built on the values of justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal, and believes that through this coalition, Nigerians can chart a new course for the country. Malami assured the people of Kebbi State that he will continue to serve and protect their interests.

The former AGF criticized the APC-led government for prioritizing politics over the safety of citizens and neglecting governance. He stated that appointments, projects, and policies are now guided by political loyalty rather than national interest. Malami emphasized that he cannot remain part of a system that watches in silence as Nigerians suffer and die.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been unveiled as a coalition party, with key opposition figures in attendance, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai. Malami's defection marks one of the first high-profile moves to the coalition party.

Malami's decision to join the ADC has sent shockwaves through the political landscape. His criticism of the APC-led government and the current state of the nation has resonated with many Nigerians. As the country grapples with numerous challenges, Malami's move is seen as a call to action for Nigerians to demand better governance.

Malami reassured the people of Kebbi State that he remains their son and servant and will continue to amplify their voice and protect their interests. He emphasized that his decision to join the ADC is driven by a desire to restore hope to the state's future.

As Nigeria navigates its current challenges, Malami's defection from APC to ADC marks a significant development in the country's political landscape. His call to action for Nigerians to join the movement to reclaim the nation has sparked a wave of interest in the ADC. Only time will tell what the future holds for this new development.
