NANS Urges Members to Shun Planned Protest

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has distanced itself from the planned protest by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) against the recent hike in voice calls and data plan prices. NANS cited that the protest may not address pressing student issues.

In a statement signed by Sen. Mu'azu Hina, National Vice President External Affairs of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Gombe, the association disassociated itself from the planned protest by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) against the recent increase in voice calls and data plan prices, citing that the protest may not address pressing student issues.

NANS prioritizes advocating for Nigerian students' welfare and interests, focusing on poor education funding, inadequate infrastructure, and insecurity. The association urges the NLC and stakeholders to explore alternative channels for addressing concerns.

Meanwhile, NANS brings attention to the deplorable state of roads in the North East region, particularly the Numan-Yola-Gombe Road, which has claimed many lives, including three students. NANS demands immediate action from authorities to repair roads and ensure safety.

The poor state of roads in the North East region exacerbates existing challenges, including insecurity, poverty, and lack of infrastructure. NANS calls on the Federal Government and State Governors to prioritize road repair and provide adequate funding.

NANS emphasizes that the Federal Government's inaction on road repair demonstrates a lack of commitment to the welfare and well-being of the people. The association demands urgent action to address the issue and ensure safety and dignity for North East residents.

Furthermore, NANS calls on the National Assembly to develop a comprehensive plan for addressing North East road infrastructure challenges. The plan should include provisions for funding, project management, and community engagement.

NANS urges its members to exercise restraint and refrain from participating in protests, as the government negotiates with contractors to address the issue. The association encourages members to remain calm and patient, trusting that efforts will yield positive results.

NANS concludes by calling on all Nigerian students to remain calm and focused on their studies, avoiding actions that may compromise their safety or well-being. The association urges authorities to address student concerns and ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
