Katagum Senator of Bauchi North Faces Criticism Over Alleged Political Manipulations and Self-Serving Agenda

A sharp wave of criticism is trailing the political trajectory of the Senator representing Katagum Senatorial District, as concerned voices accuse him of manipulating his mandate to serve personal ambition rather than public interest.

In a strongly worded opinion shared by political analyst and commentator, Sarki Mohammad, the Senator is accused of deliberately engineering distractions and controversies as a means to deflect accountability and undermine both his political party and the very constituents who elected him.

“I have always warned that once he attained his desired position, he would begin crafting unfounded controversies to shield himself from scrutiny and shift blame onto others,” Mohammad wrote. “It is a calculated strategy not only to manipulate public perception but to evade responsibility while exploiting the very mandate he was entrusted with.”

Ambition Over Service?

Observers within the Katagum political landscape are beginning to question whether the Senator’s recent actions align with the principles of public service or are driven purely by personal ambition. Critics say instead of focusing on addressing pressing developmental challenges in his senatorial district, the lawmaker appears to be creating distractions to divert attention from his performance in office.

“This reflects a troubling pattern,” Mohammad stated. “Where ambition overtakes service, and strategic self-preservation replaces transparency and responsibility.”

Speculations of Defection

Amid these concerns, rumors are swirling that the Senator may be plotting a defection to another political platform, a move that would not be new in Nigeria’s political culture but one that raises deeper questions about loyalty, ideology, and long-term commitment to constituents.

Mohammad warns that the All Progressives Congress (APC) must remain vigilant.

“Once he achieves his goals under the APC, it is highly likely he will begin scouting for the next platform that aligns with his narcissistic desires. The party must be cautious not to fall into the same trap others have.”

A Pattern of Ingratitude?

The Senator, who rose to power on the strength of a party platform and strong grassroots support, is now being accused of "biting the finger that fed him." His critics say that after leveraging the party's structure and the goodwill of the electorate, he is now turning against the very institutions that supported his rise.

A Call for Accountability

Mohammad concludes his statement with a call to action for the people of Katagum and the broader political class:

“The trust and faith placed in him must not be manipulated for personal gain. It is time for the constituents to demand the transparency, integrity, and service they were promised. Leadership is not about self-preservation it is about responsibility to the people.”

As the political dust begins to rise in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, analysts say all eyes will remain on Katagum to see whether the Senator will respond to these criticisms or continue to operate under what some have called a “delusional pursuit of power.”
